Office cleaning scopes: daily, weekly and periodic tasks

A good office cleaning scope is specific. Here is how the work usually breaks down, so you know what to ask for and what to compare.

When an office clean goes wrong, it is usually because nobody wrote down what was meant to happen. A clear scope lists each area, the tasks and how often they are done. This is how most office scopes break down.

Daily or each visit

  • Empty bins and recycling, and replace liners.
  • Clean and restock bathrooms.
  • Clean kitchen benches, sinks and the outside of appliances.
  • Wipe desks that have been cleared, along with touchpoints such as door handles, switches and lift buttons.
  • Vacuum high-traffic carpet and mop hard floors.
  • Clean reception counters and entry glass.

Weekly

  • Vacuum all carpeted areas, including under desks where accessible.
  • Dust partitions, ledges, skirting and furniture.
  • Clean meeting room tables, chairs and glass walls.
  • Clean inside the microwave and wipe down the fridge exterior.

Periodic

  • Carpet cleaning, especially traffic lanes and meeting rooms.
  • Floor stripping and sealing for vinyl and other sealed hard floors.
  • High dusting of vents, light fittings and hard-to-reach surfaces.
  • Interior glass and partitions in full.

Things to agree up front

  • Cleaning hours, building access, alarm codes and keys.
  • Whether cleaners touch desks that are not cleared.
  • Who supplies consumables such as paper towel, soap and bin liners.
  • How missed areas are reported and fixed.

Two offices of the same size can need very different hours, depending on headcount, kitchens and floor types. A site visit is the best way to get a scope, and a price, that matches yours.
